Mr. Speaker, first, I would like to congratulate you on your election as Speaker. Above all, I would like to warmly thank the people in the riding of Longueuil—Pierre-Boucher who chose to express their social democratic values by giving me the mandate to represent them.

J’aimerais remercier mon collègue M. Schulz pour le soutien que notre groupe a offert à la présidence slovène et, en tant que président du plus grand parti d’opposition en Slovénie (le parti social-démocrate), j’aimerais aussi assurer cette honorable assemblée du fait que je n’utiliserai pas les politiques européennes de la présidence slovène de l’Union européenne dans le cadre des élections législatives qui suivront la fin de cette présidence de l’UE pour en faire une cible ou une victime de nos efforts communs de réussite slovène dans le cadre de cette importante mission internationale.

The other point I would like to make is that the proposal for a resolution calls for a maximum transport time of 8 hours for animals intended for slaughter, and that, too, is an old demand from the Social Democrats.
