TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

Un accord avec l'Union européenne représenterait l'initiative commerciale canadienne la plus importante depuis l'Accord de libre-échange nord-américain.
A deal with the European Union would represent the most significant Canadian trade initiative since the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Nous l’affirmons non seulement à la lumière des principes de solidarité ou de défense de la région, de l’État de droit et du modèle économique basé sur la libre initiative et sur la dignité du travail, mais aussi sur l’occasion qu’un partenariat Union européenne - Mercosur représenterait pour une projection politique et économique plus équilibrée de l’Union et de ses États membres dans cette région du continent américain.
I say this not only in light of the already-mentioned principles of solidarity or of the region’s defence of the rule of law and of the economic model based on free initiative and on improving working conditions, but also because of the opportunity that a revitalised and concrete EU-Mercosur partnership would represent for a more balanced political and economic profile of the Union and its Member States in that region of the American continent.

Je crois pouvoir dire que nous y sommes tous favorables, mais ce qui compte aujourd'hui, c'est tout d'abord que la Commission s'engage publiquement à exercer son droit d'initiative et qu'il y ait une volonté commune de consolider cette dimension essentielle de la citoyenneté européenne et d'agir immédiatement pour que les partis politiques commencent non seulement à exister réellement, mais également à jouir d'une reconnaissance légale, parce que cela représenterait à mes yeux un grand pas dans la construction de la démocratie européenne.
I believe I can say that we all support it, but the important thing at the moment is, firstly, the existence of a public commitment by the Commission to exercise its right to initiative, a common will to consolidate a fundamental dimension for European citizenship and contribute immediately to the political parties beginning not only to exist in reality, but also to be legally recognised, because I believe that this is an important step towards the construction of European democracy.

I. 2. affirme que le respect des droits fondamentaux doit non seulement être un critère pour l'évaluation de la légitimité de l'action communautaire mais doit aussi constituer le signe de l´identité de l'Union européenne; face à la multiplicité des sources desquelles découle la portée de ces droits, estime qu´il convient d´analyser avec le plus grand intérêt l´initiative de la Présidence du Conseil d'élaborer une Charte des droits fondamentaux et des droits des citoyens européens et notamment d´établir la valeur ajoutée qu´elle représenterait par rapport à la situation actuelle;
I. 2. States that respect for fundamental rights must not merely be a criterion for assessing the legitimacy of Community action but should also be the identifying feature of the European Union; considers, in view of the plethora of sources governing the scope of these rights, that the decision by the Presidency of the Council to draw up a Charter of the rights and fundamental rights of European citizens should be analysed with the greatest interest and in particular that the added value which it would represent in comparison with the existing situation should be ascertained;
