In their joint statement the 28 Heads of State or Government of the European Union, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk agreed with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu to activate the joint Action Plan on migration management and set out a number of shared commitments and actions in many areas, for example:

H. whereas Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, calling the mass killings ‘inhumane’; whereas the Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoğlu, has stated that Turkey ‘shares the suffering of Armenians’, called for the breaking of taboos in addressing the ‘great trauma that froze time in 1915’ and has committed to giving ‘due recognition to the Armenian cultural heritage in Turkey’;

Ali Akbar Salehi, ministre iranien des affaires étrangères, a déclaré que l'Iran était disposé à reprendre les négociations;
J. whereas on 5 January 2012 the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has conveyed an invitation from the EU High Representative to Iran to resume nuclear talks with the P5+1; whereas during the visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has stated that Iran is ready to resume talks;
