In the economic area new measures to increase trade and investment include special arrangements to facilitate the Jordan-Israel trade agreement through extension of the pan EuroMed cumulation system, liberalisation of trade in agricultural products, work towards liberalisation in services and the possibility of a new trade agreement between Jordan and the Palestinian authority.

En ce qui concerne les résultats du sommet Asie-Europe, le Commissaire a invité les deux parties à réaffirmer le rôle majeur des Nations unies dans le maintien de la paix et la résolution des problèmes mondiaux. As regards the outcome of the ASEM summit, the Commissioner called upon both sides to reaffirm the central role of the United Nations in both peace-keeping and addressing global issues; he underlined the priority given by the EU to the continuation of the trade facilitation and investment promotion action plans; he expressed the Commission's readiness to contribute to an extension of the ASEM Trust Fund which provides economic and financial assistance to financial restructuring and social safety nets; he welcomed Korea's proposal for the creation of a Transeurasia superhighway project linking European and Asian researchers; and he argued in favour of giving ASEM a "human face" by increasing the level of educational, cultural and intellectual exchanges.
