10. se félicite dès lors de la participation des régions côtières aux programmes Interreg IV B et Interreg C et aux projets qui portent sur la coopération transnationale et interrégionale dans le domaine du tourisme et les invite à recourir davantage aux initiatives et aux instruments communautaires existants pour les régions côtières (comme la stratégie méditerranéenne, la stratégie pour la mer Baltique et la synergie pour la mer Noire); recommande vivement à la Commission de prendre davantage en considération les régions côtières dans les nouveaux programmes Interreg pour la prochaine période de programmation;

In the framework of INTERREG, the Community Initiative which focuses on cross border cooperation, Directorate General Regional Policy (REGIO) can finance the translation costs of documents if they represent an indispensable part of the project.

Avec l'approbation du Commissaire Barnier, le 16 décembre 2002, l'Union s'est ainsi dotée d'un nouvel outil pour améliorer l'efficacité et la qualité des programmes INTERREG III. Face aux défis considérables liés à la mise en oeuvre de cette initiative communautaire, INTERACT pourra également avoir un rôle essentiel dans la simplification plus poussée des procédures au niveau des programmes INTERREG III, notamment dans la perspective de la période de programmation post-2006.
The most outstanding feature of 2002 was the approval of the Interact programme. In order to establish a supporting framework for efficient implementation of Interreg III, the Commission and Member States agreed to the Interact programme (standing for INTERreg - Animation, Coordination, Transfert). With its approval by the Commissioner, Mr Barnier, on 16 December 2002, the Union acquired a new tool for improving the effectiveness and quality of the Interreg III programmes. Given the considerable challenges facing the implementation of this Community Initiative, Interact will be an essential element in further simplifying procedures under the Interreg III programmes, in particular with a view to the programming period after 2006.

2) Dans le but de favoriser un aménagement intégré et équilibré du territoire, la Commission continuera à encourager l'application des conclusions politiques que comporte le Schéma de développement de l'espace communautaire (SDEC) dans la mise en oeuvre d'actions financées par les Fonds structurels et plus particulièrement par le biais du programme INTERREG d'initiative communautaire.
2) With the objective of encouraging balanced and integrated territorial management, the Commission will continue to encourage the application of the political conclusions contained in the European Spatial Development Perspective (ESDP) in the implementation of actions financed through the Structural Funds and particularly through the Community Initiative INTERREG programme.

– (FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, having read the Commission communication on the INTERREG III initiative, and pointing out that I took part in the vote on Mr Decourrière’s report within the Committee on Regional Policy, Transport and Tourism, I should like not only to expressly reiterate our agreement in principle with the initiative as presented and, particularly in the context of INTERREG III B, with the Commission’s recognition of activities contributing to the restoration of landscapes run down due the level of prices in the agricultural sector, a sector in which many associations, especially cynegetic, are already making enormous investments in my own country.
