Now, the Supreme Court is asking the courts to do the opposite in interpreting the legislation, to give much more to be sure that those who are in a minority official language situation can obtain the equitable treatment to which they are entitled under the Act (1705) Prof. André Braëns: Mr. Senator, you are probably well aware of the Charlebois case in New Brunswick, in which the New Brunswick Court of Appeal found that under the Constitution and the official languages legislation in effect in that province, the municipalities had to adopt and publish their by-laws in both languages.
