I. having regard to the fact that trafficking in human beings is an abhorrent and worrying phenomenon involving coercive sexual exploitation and labour exploitation in conditions akin to slavery, welcomes the progress made through finalising the Framework Decision to combat trafficking in human beings. In addition, urges the Council and the Commission to continue the fight with improved international coordination and information exchange between relevant agencies to secure criminal convictions of traffickers, improved funding from governments and a commitment to tackling the root causes of the problem, thereby enacting the commitments made in the Brussels Declaration at the European Conference on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings – Global Challenge for the 21 Century organised by the IOM and the European Commission. This should become the main instrument for future policy making in this field and be followed by the European Parliament, European Commission and the Council,
