10 Calls on the National Ice Hockey, Cycling and Boxing Federations of the EU Member States and all other democratic countries to urge the IIHF, UCI and the EUBC respectively, to re-discuss its earlier decision envisaging the possibility of relocating the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship, the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and the 2013 European Boxing Championships respectively, from Belarus to another host country until the regime shows clear signs of its commitment to respect human rights;

J. whereas Ukraine will host the 2012 European Football Championship together with Poland in June; whereas so far high-ranking European politicians have indicated that they will not attend matches taking place in Ukraine, but have not called for a boycott of the European Football Championship matches;

S’agissant des éléments statistiques invoqués par les requérantes en vue de démontrer que les matchs « non prime » et/ou « non gala » ne sont pas d’une importance majeure pour la société belge et la société du Royaume-Uni, le Tribunal constate que les chiffres d'audience concernant ces catégories de matchs des derniers championnats du monde et d'Europe démontrent qu’ils ont attiré un nombre important de téléspectateurs dont une partie significative ne s'intéresse pas normalement au football.
Regarding the statistics relied on by the applicants in order to show that the ‘non-prime’ and/or ‘non-gala’ matches are not of major importance for Belgian or United Kingdom society, the Court finds that the viewing figures relating to those categories of matches from the most recent World Cup and EURO tournaments show that they have in fact drawn large numbers of viewers, a significant proportion of whom are not usually interested in football.

On the same note, I would ask the Commissioner to actually produce a policy that is no longer concerned with imposing fines on organisations that have infringed some competition regulation or other, but is, in every sense, a policy aimed at controlling those big organisations and ensuring that European Championships and World Cups that are held in Europe really do continue to be celebrations for the people and not celebrations of business.

In a message to the organizers, Mr Ripa di Meana, the Member of the Commission with special responsibility for sport, paid tribute to the weightlifting federations, which in setting up championships specifically for the Community countries as far as back as 1973, had been a step ahead of the recommendations of the Adonnino Committee on the subject of a people's Europe.
