Recognises that the conclusion of the WTO agreements on trade in bananas put an end to a long-term dispute with Latin American and ACP partner countries’ banana suppliers, could facilitate progress in the Doha Round negotiations and has contributed to concluding the negotiations on the various agreements with Central America and Colombia and Peru; calls, nonetheless, for account to be taken of the commitments made to ACP partners and the interests of EU producers; calls, in order to avoid further disputes, for fair treatment to be guaranteed to all trade partners in Latin America, including those who have not concluded a trade agreement with the EU;

rappelle que les accords adoptés au niveau de l'OMC et les accords bilatéraux en cours avec certains pays d'Amérique latine ont des conséquences sur les économies vulnérables des régions ultrapériphériques (RUP) en raison des similitudes entre leurs secteurs agricoles et ceux du continent latino-américain; est favorable à l'approche en vertu de laquelle, dans les relations entre l'Union et l'Amérique latine, les filières stratégiques et traditionnelles des RUP sont préservées et font l'objet aussi bien d'une compensation adéquate que d'une attention particulière afin de ne pas nuire aux engagements que l'Union a pris envers ces régions dans la stratégie européenne à l'égard des RUP en 2009;
Points out that the agreements adopted within the WTO and the bilateral agreements under negotiation with certain Latin American countries have consequences for the vulnerable economies of the outermost regions because of the similarities between their agricultural sectors and those on the Latin American continent; supports therefore the approach under which, in trade relations between the EU and Latin America, the strategic and traditional sectors of the outermost regions are preserved and are the subject of both appropriate compensation and particular attention in order not to undermine the obligations that the EU adopted towards these regions in its European strategy for the outermost regions in 2009;

Queiró (UEN), par écrit. - (PT) Le présent projet d’accord d’association, dont le but est d’améliorer les relations entre l’UE et l’Amérique centrale, repose sur notre souhait d’établir le socle d’un accord global interrégional destiné à faciliter la création d’une association euro-latinoaméricaine comprenant une zone de libre-échange, et ce après avoir conclu des accords d’association avec les pays d’Amérique centrale et de la Communauté andine - accords similaires à ceux qui ont déjà été conclus avec le Mexique et le Chili et à ceux qui sont actuellement en cours de négociation avec Mercosur.
Queiró (UEN), in writing (PT) The background to producing this Association Agreement – the aim of which is to improve EU-Central America relations – is that, having concluded association agreements with the countries of Central America and the Andean Community which are identical to those already concluded with Mexico and Chile and to those currently being negotiated with Mercosur, we wish to establish a basis for an overall interregional agreement that will facilitate the creation of an EU-Latin-American Association, including a Free Trade Area.
