While time does not permit us to go over all the programs and projects, let me give you a few examples of where money is being committed: The twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick and British Columbia; cost sharing with Ontario of the access road to the new Windsor-Detroit bridge; building world renowned cultural infrastructure in Quebec, such as Place du Quartier des spectacles in Montreal; the Banff Centre in Alberta; the new state of the art convention centre in New Brunswick; a new congress centre in Ottawa; and last but not least, the Spadina subway extension in Toronto to address urban gridlock.

Recent projects supported by P3 Canada funding include: the construction of a transit facility and a permanent snow storage decontamination facility in the city of Saskatoon; the Iqaluit international airport improvement project, which will improve existing infrastructure and build a new airport terminal building; a new train maintenance facility for Lachine, Quebec that will provide a long-term solution to public transit development in the greater Montreal area; the construction of the North Saskatchewan River crossing in Alberta to alleviate traffic congestion; and the construction of a new organic biofuels facility in the city of Surrey, B.C. With projects such as these, it is no secret that Canada has become a global leader in P3s.

Le volet social des programmes KONVER Allemagne avait été décidé par la Commission le 11 octobre 1993 avec un concours du FSE de 13,2 MECU (IP(93)847). Les programmes comportent les axes prioritaires suivants : - aide et assistance à la reconversion, notamment pour les PME; - aide à l'innovation et aux transferts de technologie; - projets d'aménagement et de développement; - réaménagement de sites militaires. On citera, à titre d'exemples, l'assainissement écologique de l'ancien camp de Jüterbog et sa remise en état en prévision de la construction d'une grande école technique (Brandebourg), des travaux de dépollution d'un terrain du mémorial de Ravensbrück (Brandebourg) utilisé jusqu'à présent par le groupe occidental des forces armées de la C.E.I., la construction d'un centre informatique à Marburg (Hesse) et la construction d'un parc d'activités sur le terrain de l'ancienne caserne Holtzendorff à Kaiserslautern (Rhénanie-Palatinat).
The programmes cover the following priorities: - consulting services and assistance in the conversion of defence production to civil production, in particular for small and medium- sized businesses - innovation promotion and technology transfer measures - planning and development concepts - restoration of land previously used for military purposes The projects include: environmental redevelopment and change of the designated use of the Altes Lager in Jüterbog so that a polytechnic college can be built (Brandenburg), waste disposal measures on an area previously used by western units of the CIS armed forces on the Ravensbrück concentration camp memorial site (Brandenburg), the construction of a software centre in Marburg (Hesse) and the construction of an industry and service sector park on the site of the former Holtzendorff barracks in Kaiserslautern (Rhineland-Palatinate).
