(20) Un cadre établi au niveau de l'Union pour la protection des appellations d'origine et des indications géographiques, comprenant leur inscription dans un registre, permet de développer ces appellations et indications, du fait que ce cadre garantit, à travers une approche plus uniforme, des conditions de concurrence égale entre les producteurs de produits portant ces mentions et qu'il conduit à une meilleure crédibilité de ces produits aux yeux des consommateurs.
(20) A Union framework for protection of designations of origin and geographical indications, with their inclusion into a register, permits their development since, by providing a more uniform approach, such a framework ensures fair competition between the producers of products bearing such indications and enhances the credibility of the products in the consumer's eyes.

Calls for the reinforcement and streamlining of EU policies for the protection of origin and geographical indications and other certifications, which differentiate among agricultural products; welcomes, in this regard, the debate launched by the release on 15 October 2008 of the Green Paper on Agricultural Product Quality: product standards, farming requirements and quality schemes (COM(2008)0641 );
