Second, a problem in lumber, I would argue, is not so much the provisions of the FTA/NAFTA as an American political system that has permitted one powerful industry with jobs and cash to throw around to capture the American executive and legislative branches to the point where the administration has, with the apparent blessing of the Congress, directly flouted U.S. law.
