Mr. Tom Beach, Acting Executive Director, Agricultural Institute of Canada: Honourable senators, I will make a few comments, primarily about the profession from the perspective of the Agricultural Institute.

Le Canada étant membre de l’accord de libre-échange nord-américain, la Commission doit s’engager à trouver une solution satisfaisante tant sur les produits industriels que sur les produits agricoles ou de la pêche, afin que le Canada ne devienne pas la porte d’entrée vers l’Europe des produits en provenance des autres membres de l’ALENA.
As Canada is a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Commission must undertake to find a satisfactory solution regarding both industrial products and agricultural or fisheries products, so that Canada does not become a gateway through which goods from other NAFTA members enter Europe.

Endorses the target population identified and addressed in the Animal Health Strategy Communication: animal owners, members of the veterinary profession, food chain businesses, animal health industries, animal interest groups, researchers and teachers, governing bodies of sport and recreational organisations, educational facilities, consumers, travellers, competent authorities of the Member States and the EU institutions, and considers it necessary to include representatives of the live-stock engineering profession;

Pendant toute cette période, j’ai eu l’occasion d’entendre l’avis de nombreuses organisations représentant le secteur agricole et le monde rural dans divers États membres et de dialoguer avec des députés et des représentants institutionnels de nombreux États membres - pour ne pas dire tous - et des institutions communautaires, à commencer, naturellement, par le Parlement européen.
Throughout this period, I have had the opportunity to hear many opinions of organisations representing the agricultural sector and the rural world in various Member States and to dialogue with members of parliament and institutional representatives from many, in fact almost all, Member States and Community institutions, obviously starting here with the European Parliament.

Notes that the Commission has commissioned a study, linked to its European Transparency Initiative, of the rules and standards of professional ethics for holders of public office in the EU institutions and in national parliaments, national governments, constitutional courts (supreme courts), courts of audit and central or national banks of the 27 Member States of the EU, as well as Canada and the United States of America, and that for the EU institutions the study will examine and compare the rules and standards of professional ethics in the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Court of Auditors, the European Court of Justice, the European Central Bank and the European Investment Bank;

Mme Claire Bolduc: Actuellement, tous les instituts sont regroupés au sein de l'Institut agricole du Canada, sauf l'Ordre des agronomes, qui n'est pas formellement membre de l'Institut agricole, mais qui contribue à plusieurs des travaux de l'Institut agricole du Canada.
Ms. Claire Bolduc: Currently, all of the institutes belong to the Agricultural Institute of Canada, except for the Ordre des agronomes, which is not formally a member of the Agricultural Institute, but does contribute to several of its projects.
