Appreciates the constructive approach of the Serbian Government to relations with neighbouring countries, since this has enabled substantial progress in both regional cooperation and closer relations with the EU, and urges Serbia to continue to build on its good-neighbourly relations; calls on Serbia to promote good-neighbourly relations and the peaceful settlement of disputes, which includes promoting a climate of tolerance and condemning all forms of hate speech or war-time rhetoric and refraining from gestures such as publicly welcoming the return of individuals convicted of war crimes; notes that outstanding disputes and issues, in particular issues of border demarcation, succession, return of cultural goods and disclosure of Yugoslavian archives should be resolved in line with international law and established principles, including through implementation of legally binding agreements, inter alia the agreement on succession issues, and that bilateral disputes should be addressed in the early stages of the accession process in accordance with international law; highlights Serbia’s constructive role in the framework of the ‘Berlin Process’ and the Western Balkan Six initiative and its connectivity agenda; welcomes other initiatives focused on the future of the Western Balkans, in particular the Brdo Process, which proves to be an important framework for cooperation in both political and technical fields, and takes the view that concrete cooperation in areas of mutual interest can contribute to the stabilisation of the Western Balkans; welcomes, in this respect, the first Serbia – Bosnia and Herzegovina joint ministerial meeting, which took place on 4 November 2015 in Sarajevo; calls on Serbia to further promote the stabilisation and institutional strengthening of Bosnia and Herzegovina through its existing contacts and good-neighbourly relations with the country; reiterates its call on the Serbian authorities to initiate further measures for cross-borde ...

Strongly supports the efforts of the League of Arab States to end the violence, to promote a political solution in Syria and to provide all forms of political and material support to the Syrian opposition; welcomes the Arab League’s call of the 12th of February 2012 on the UNSC to send a joint UN-Arab peacekeeping mission to Syria in order to replace the Arab League monitoring mission; urges the HR/VP and EU Member States to do their utmost to pave the way for the Russian Federation's support of the Arab League's peacekeeping initiative; firmly encourages the HR/VP, the Council and EU Member States to continue cooperating closely with Turkey and neighbouring countries of Syria, the Arab League and other international actors and to engage in the launching of a contact group in order to find a common position for the solution of the crisis, to help the opposition forces in their struggle by providing them material and technical support, including satellite images and communication tools, while stepping up the pressure on the Syrian regime in order to stop the military escalation on its own people; strongly supports the proposal by Tunisia to host the meeting of ‘Friends of Syria’ contact group on 24 February 2012, a plan initiated by France and the United States after Russia and China blocked the UNSC resolution; calls in this spirit for the immediate setting-up of an EU Special Envoy on Syria;

À la suite de la visite en Ukraine de la Présidente du CESE, en juin 2005, le groupe de contact "Voisins européens de l'Est" du CESE a décidé d'apporter une contribution à l'évaluation entreprise par la Commission du dialogue civil et social en Ukraine, par le biais de recommandations et d'un dialogue personnalisé".
Following the EESC President visit to Ukraine in June 2005, the EESC’s Contact Group “Eastern European Neighbours” decided to contribute to the Commission’s assessment of civil and social dialogue in Ukraine through recommendations and people-to-people dialogue.

Concrètement, nous souhaitons revenir en Ukraine afin d'y tenir une conférence de la société civile avec nos homologues ukrainiens et d'examiner le meilleur moyen de mener à bien cette tâche", a précisé Mme Karin Alleweldt, présidente du groupe de contact "Voisins européens de l'Est" du CESE".

95. estime que ce forum garantirait échange d'informations et débat public; grâce à une méthode de travail "intégrée" associant toutes les parties intéressées (scientifiques, industries et organisations non gouvernementales), conjointement au Groupe européen d'éthique et au groupe de haut niveau sur la science de la vie et au Groupe de protection des données à caractère personnel, et grâce aux contacts permanents avec les parlements nationaux de l'Union, ce forum, composé de membres du Parlement européen et de représentants de la Commission et du Conseil, pourrait se réunir deux fois l'an afin d'évaluer l'impact des investissements consacrés à la recherche et d'intervenir, à l'aide de contributions ad hoc qui pourraient être prises en considération par les instances de décision compétentes des institutions en question, sur les problèmes de nature éthique, juridique, économique et sociale qui pourraient surgir; en ce qui concerne la méthode de travail de ce forum, il faudra veiller à ce qu’il reçoive une aide scientifique financée et bénéficie des standards les plus élevés en matière de transparence et de contrôle parlementaire;

Believes that such a forum would guarantee an exchange of information and a public debate; using an ‘integrated’ working method, in other words taking account of all the parties concerned (scientists, industries, and non-governmental organisations), together with the European Ethics Group and the high-level working party on life sciences, and aided by permanent communication with the national parliaments of the Union, the forum, consisting of Members of the European Parliament and representatives from the Commission and Council, could meet twice a year for the purpose of evaluating the impact of research investment and taking action, via ad hoc contributions which could be taken into account by the competent decision-making bodies of the institutions concerned, on such ethical, legal, economic, and social problems as might periodically arise; with regard to the working methods of this forum, it must be ensured that it receives well-founded scientific assistance and meets the highest standards of transparency and parliamentary scrutiny;
