In order to ensure respect for the rights guaranteed by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (the ‘Charter’), in the case of auditors, external accountants and tax advisors, who, in some Member States, are entitled to defend or represent a client in the context of judicial proceedings or to ascertain a client's legal position, the information they obtain in the performance of those tasks should not be subject to the reporting obligations laid down in this Directive.

Respect for democracy and fundamental and human rights, as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Charter, the Helsinki Final Act and the Charter of Paris for a New Europe, as well as the principles of market economy, including those enunciated in the documents of the CSCE Bonn Conference, underpin the internal and external policies of the Parties and constitute an essential element of this Agreement.

Les signataires de la déclaration de Barcelone ont notamment accepté une déclaration de principe aux termes de laquelle ils s'engagent à agir dans le respect de la charte des Nations unies et de la déclaration universelle des droits de l'homme et à développer l'État de droit et la démocratie dans leurs systèmes politiques, à respecter les droits de l'homme et les libertés fondamentales et à garantir l'exercice légitime et effectif de ces droits et libertés.
Signatories to the Barcelona declaration have accepted inter alia a declaration of principles to act in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to develop the rule of law and democracy in their political systems, respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and guarantee the effective legitimate exercise of such rights and freedoms.

Pour conclure, je voudrais encore ajouter ceci : nous ne pouvons pas tenir un Sommet extraordinaire à Lisbonne, y déclarer que le plein emploi devrait être notre objectif politique et simultanément refuser d'inscrire les droits sociaux fondamentaux dans la Charte.
On a final note, I would just like to add that we cannot declare at a special summit meeting in Lisbon that full employment should be our political goal, but at the same time, refuse to incorporate social fundamental rights into the Charter.

Parmi ceux-ci figurent, notamment, ceux exposés dans la charte des droits fondamentaux de l'Union européenne, la protection de la dignité et de la vie humaines, des données personnelles et de la vie privée, ainsi que de l'environnement conformément au droit communautaire et aux conventions internationales pertinentes telles que la déclaration d'Helsinki, la convention du Conseil de l'Europe sur les droits de l'homme et la biomédecine, signée à Oviedo le 4 avril 1997 et le protocole additionnel portant interdiction du clonage d'êtres humains, signé à Paris le 12 janvier 1998, la convention des Nations unies relative aux droits de l'enfant, la déclaration universelle sur le génome humain et les droits de l'homme, adoptée par l'Unesco, ainsi que les résolutions pertinentes de l'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS), le protocole sur la protection et le bien-être des animaux adopté à Amsterdam ainsi que la législation, les réglementations et les orientations éthiques actuellement en vigueur dans les pays où la recherche sera menée.
These include, inter alia, principles reflected in the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union, protection of human dignity and human life, protection of personal data and privacy as well as the environment in accordance with Community law and, where relevant, international conventions, such as the Declaration of Helsinki, the Council of Europe Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine signed in Oviedo on 4 April 1997 and the Additional Protocol on the Prohibition of Cloning Human Beings signed in Paris on 12 January 1998, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Universal Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights adopted by UNESCO, and the relevant World Health Organisation (WHO) resolutions, the Amsterdam Protocol on Animal Protection and Welfare; and current legislation, regulations and ethical guidelines in countries where the research will be carried out.
