Notes that the production plants of Antonio Merloni SpA, a producer of domestic appliances, were located in the Italian regions of Marche and Umbria, in particular the provinces of Ancona and Perugia; observes that in 2002, Antonio Merloni SpA, the fifth largest manufacturer of appliances in the Union changed its sales strategy and started selling its products directly through its own brands in 2006; notes that as a result of the global economic crisis, the company experienced financial difficulties, which were further exacerbated by the sudden tightening of conditions for accessing financial credit; notes that the downturn in production, which had been following the downward trend at a European level, combined with financial constraints, resulted in the winding-up of the business activities of Antonio Merloni SpA; notes that a total of 2 217 workers were made redundant, of whom 700 were employed by QA Group SpA; notes that this application, therefore, covers the 1 517 workers who are unemployed as a result of the closure of Antonio Merloni SpA;

Takes note of the fact that demographic developments in Europe will give rise to continuing growth in health tourism and in spa tourism in particular; calls on the Commission, in view of the fact that there are a variety of Community rules covering spa-tourism issues, to consider the possibility of tabling a single legislative proposal on spa tourism in order to give the sector a controlled organic structure, encouraging its competitiveness and specifying immediately that spa companies operating in the Member States, as providers of health services, are excluded from the scope of Directive 2006/123/EC; stresses the relevance of the new legislation on cross-border healthcare and considers that these must be enforced in strict compliance with the criteria and conditions imposed by the new legislative framework, in order to ensure fully satisfactory implementation;
58. neemt nota van het feit dat de demografische ontwikkelingen in Europa zullen leiden tot een continue groei van het toerisme op gezondheidsgebied en van met name het kuuroordtoerisme; verzoekt de Commissie om, gelet op de uiteenlopende communautaire voorschriften inzake kuuroorden, de mogelijkheid te onderzoeken om een alomvattend wetgevingsvoorstel voor kuuroorden in te dienen teneinde deze bedrijfstak een samenhangende en gereglementeerde structuur te geven en aldus de concurrentiekracht ervan te stimuleren en preciseert van meet af aan dat de in de lidstaten actieve kuuroordbedrijven gezondheidsdiensten verstrekken en als dusdanig zijn uitgesloten van het toepassingsgebied van Richtlijn 2006/123/EG; onderstreept de relevantie van de nieuwe wetgeving inzake grensoverschrijdende gezondheidszorg en is van mening dat bij de toepassing hiervan, met het oog op een bevredigende uitvoering ervan, strikt de hand moet worden gehouden aan de criteria en voorwaarden waarin in het nieuwe wetgevingskader is voorzien;
