The EESC delegation will meet several Ministers in Jerusalem and Ramallah in order to underline the importance of civil society consultation and the role of Economic and Social Councils to enhance cohesion and dialogue between different economic and social stakeholders and authorities.

The Community and its Member States, recalling the statement adopted by the Council on 25 May 1993 on the future of development cooperation with South Africa and the Council's conclusions of 18 and 19 April 1994, reaffirm their determination to continue resolutely their efforts at development cooperation with South Africa. 2. The aim of the Community's policy on development cooperation with South Africa is, while taking account of the specific characteristics of the South African economy and South African society, to contribute to the lasting economic and social development of the country and to consolidate the foundations of a democratic society in South Africa, through support aimed at satisfying the population's basic needs and improving the standard of living, especially among the poorest sections of society, taking into account the development priorities defined by the new South African government, particularly in its National Programme for Reconstruction and Development. 3. In view of the considerable progress made in the transformation of South Africa into a democratic, multiracial society in which human rights are respected, the time has come to normalize Community cooperation policy with South Africa by adapting it and the way it operates.
Onder verwijzing naar de door de Raad op 25 mei 1993 aangenomen verklaring over de toekomstige ontwikkelingssamenwerking met Zuid- Afrika en de conclusies van de Raad van 18 en 19 april 1994, herbevestigen de Gemeenschap en haar Lid-Staten hun vaste voornemen om de ontwikkelingssamenwerking met Zuid-Afrika resoluut voort te zetten. 2. Het Gemeenschapsbeleid inzake ontwikkelingssamenwerking met Zuid- Afrika beoogt, met inachtneming van de bijzonderheden van de Zuidafrikaanse economie en samenleving, een bijdrage te leveren tot de duurzame economische en maatschappelijke ontwikkeling van dat land en tot de consolididatie van de fundamenten van een democratische maatschappij, door steun te verlenen die gericht is op de bevrediging van de basisbehoeften en de verbetering van de levensstandaard van de bevolking, met name van de armste segmenten, daarbij rekening houdend met de ontwikkelingsprioriteiten zoals de nieuwe Zuidafrikaanse regering deze met name in haar nationaal wederopbouw- en ontwikkelingsprogramma heeft vastgelegd. 3. Er is aanzienlijke vooruitgang geboekt bij de omvorming van Zuid- Afrika tot een democratische en multiraciale samenleving die de mensenrechten naleeft.
