(EN)The Directive 1999/70/EC of 28 June 1999 concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term work concluded by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), the Union of Industrial and Employers’ Confederations of Europe (UNICE) and the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation (CEEP) obliges the Member States to introduce rules in order to implement the principle of non-discrimination between fixed-term workers and comparable permanent workers as regards employment conditions and periods of service qualifications.
Richtlijn 1999/70/EG van de Raad van 28 juni 1999 betreffende de door het Europees Verbond van Vakverenigingen (EVV), de Unie van Industrie- en Werkgeversfederaties in Europa (UNICE) en het Europees Centrum van gemeenschapsbedrijven en bedrijven van algemeen economisch belang (CEEP) gesloten raamovereenkomst inzake arbeidsovereenkomsten voor bepaalde tijd verplicht de lidstaten tot de invoering van regelgeving voor de tenuitvoerlegging van het beginsel van non-discriminatie tussen werknemers met een arbeidsovereenkomst voor bepaalde tijd en vergelijkbare werknemers in vaste dienst met betrekking tot de arbeidsvoorwaarden en de vaststelling van de anciënniteit.

The technical coordination shall be provided for the workers' delegation by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and for the employers' delegation by the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (UNICE).

(EN) As Greece has not communicated to the Commission any information regarding the transposition of Directive 1999/70/EC concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term work concluded by European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Union of Industrial and Employers’ Confederations of Europe (UNICE) and European Center of Enterprises (CEEP) , the Commission will be obliged to examine the possibility of launching infringement proceedings against Greece on these grounds.

The European framework agreement on teleworking signed by the social partners on 16 July 2002 will be implemented by the members of the European Union of Industrial and Employers’ Confederations (UNICE)/European Union of Crafts and small and medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME), the European Centre for the public economy (CEEP) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) (and the PMS/European Confederation of Executive Staffs liaison committee), in accordance with the procedures and practices of the social partners in the Member States, as laid down in Article 139(2) of the EC Treaty.

In its position paper "Releasing Europe's employment potential: Companies' views on European Social Policy beyond 2000" UNICE (Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe) has stressed that European companies see themselves as an integral part of society, as they act in a socially responsible way; consider profits to be the main goal of the company but not its only "raison d'être", and opt for long-term thinking on strategic decisions and investment.
In haar standpunt "Releasing Europe's employment potential: Companies' views on European Social Policy beyond 2000" beklemtoont de UNICE (de Unie van Industrie- en Werkgeversfederaties van Europa) dat de Europese bedrijven - door hun sociale verantwoordelijkheid te nemen - zichzelf als een wezenlijk deel van de samenleving beschouwen; winst als hun hoofddoel maar niet als hun enige bestaansreden zien; en voor strategische beslissingen en investeringen op lange termijn kiezen.
