Optimaal gebruik van de Customs Information System (CIS) databank van de EU, via welk systeem de nationale douanediensten van de lidstaten informatie kunnen uitwisselen, zoeken en verspreiden over smokkelactiviteiten en interventieverzoeken kunnen worden gedaan (signaleren, rapporteren, discrete surveillance of specifieke controles), zou ook moeten worden ingezet in de strijd tegen piraterij en namaak.

Such a new approach implies new working and control methods and a common risk management strategy for all EU customs services. It will also offer a platform for working with the Member States on the most appropriate operational structure to be put in place in future for an efficient functioning of the Customs Union.
Een dergelijke nieuwe aanpak impliceert nieuwe werk- en controlemethodes en een gemeenschappelijk risicobeheerbeleid voor alle douanediensten in de EU. In this context, the Customs authorities of the EU play a crucial role: their mission is to ensure at all times the balance between protecting society and facilitating trade through the control of the supply chain, at the external border as well as within the EU. Customs services have information about every movement of goods imported into or exported from the EU and they apply sophisticated systems and methods to control all types of goods.

I suspect that the underlying reason for the use of this system in Italy is that following Slovenia’s accession to the EU, the volume of customs services in connection with transit goods haulage has been halved. The unjustified charging of a road toll is the financial compensation.
Ik vermoed dat de achterliggende reden voor het gebruik van dit systeem in Italië is dat de inkomsten aan invoerrechten in verband met de doorvoer van goederen zijn gehalveerd sinds Slovenië is toegetreden tot de EU. De ongerechtvaardigde tolheffing is hiervoor de financiële compensatie.

The argument that major operators tend to base their marketing campaigns on brand recognition, whereas small and medium-sized businesses are inclined to concentrate on price and customer service, is not valid.
