Guantánamo is a symbol of the victory of barbarity over the rule of law, but I have to tell Mrs Plassnik that Guantánamo is unfortunately not an anomaly: it is just the tip of the iceberg, because in recent times the idea has been to fight terrorism by using the same barbarous methods that terrorism uses, and that is leading to our defeat.
Guantanamo symbolise la victoire de la barbarie sur l’État de droit. Je voudrais toutefois dire à l’intention de Mme Plassnik que Guantanamo n’est malheureusement pas une anomalie, mais seulement la partie visible de l’iceberg. En effet, l’idée de lutter contre le terrorisme en recourant aux mêmes méthodes barbares que les terroristes a récemment fait son chemin, et elle nous conduit à notre perte.
