1. From 1 January 2008, for a six-year period, the measures undertaken by the Commission making use of remote-sensing applications within the framework of the common agricultural policy may be financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund, pursuant to Article 3(2)(e) of Regulation (EC) No 1290/2005 , where their aim is to give the Commission the means to:

(2) Experience gained in 2004-2007, within the framework of Decision No 1445/2000/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2000 on the application of aerial-survey and remote-sensing techniques to the agricultural statistics for 1999 to 2003, as amended, and the decisions which preceded it, has both provided enhanced knowledge on monitoring land use, land cover and environmental parameters (LUCAS project), and generated an operational and development stage of the agro-meteorological system for monitoring crops and forecasting yields (MARS project) .
(2) L'expérience acquise au cours de la période 2004–2007, dans le cadre de la décision n° 1445/2000/CE du Parlement européen et du Conseil du 22 mai 2000 portant sur l'application de techniques d'enquêtes aréolaires et de télédétection aux statistiques agricoles pour la période 1999–2003 telle que modifiée, et des décisions qui l'ont précédée, a apporté une connaissance accrue du suivi de l'utilisation des terres, de la couverture terrestre et des paramètres environnementaux (projet LUCAS), et a conduit à un stade de développement et opérationnel du système agro-météorologique pour le suivi des cultures et la prévision des rendements (projet MARS) .
