This business of returning to the old principle where the justice of the peace was appointed by the Crown, in the days when the Crown was quite arbitrary and had not surrendered its powers, as it has in the case of Canada and Great Britain, is not really in my mind a very persuasive argument.
À mon avis, ce ne serait pas un argument très persuasif que de dire qu'il faut revenir à l'ancien principe selon lequel la Couronne nommait le juge de paix, principe qui s'appliquait à une époque où la Couronne avait un caractère encore très arbitraire et n'avait pas abandonné ses pouvoirs.
