The EU will therefore continue to support discussions at WIPO on substantive patent law harmonization. This would enhance patent quality and reduce costs, for the benefit of users of the patent system world-wide.

Substantive patent law harmonisation would simplify patent processing, facilitate greater work sharing activities between patent offices, and could ultimately lead to mutual recognition of granted patents between offices.
