(8) Through its Governing Board, the EIT should identify strategic long-term challenges for innovation in Europe, particularly in trans- and/or inter-disciplinary areas including those already identified at European level in the strategic research agendas of the European technology platforms and joint technology initiatives as well as the near-market cluster projects of the intergovernmental EUREKA initiative , and should provide a transparent and excellence-based selection process for Knowledge and Innovation Communities (hereinafter referred to as "KICs") in these fields.
(8) Par l'intermédiaire de son comité directeur, l'IEIT devrait cerner les défis stratégiques auxquels est confrontée à long terme l'innovation en Europe, notamment dans les domaines transdisciplinaires et/ou interdisciplinaires, y compris ceux déjà circonscrits au niveau européen dans les agendas stratégiques de recherche des plateformes technologiques européennes et dans les initiatives technologiques conjointes, ainsi que dans les projets définis, au titre de l'initiative intergouvernementale Eureka, par les pôles fonctionnant dans des conditions proches de celles du marché , et proposer un processus transparent et fondé sur des critères d'excellence pour la sélection de communautés de la connaissance et de l'innovation (ci-après, les "CCI") dans ces domaines.

(7) Through its Governing Board, the EIT should identify strategic long-term challenges for innovation in Europe, particularly in trans- and/or inter-disciplinary areas including those already identified at European level in the Strategic Research Agendas of the European Technology Platforms and Joint Technology Initiatives as well as the near-market cluster projects of the intergovernmental EUREKA initiative, and should provide a transparent and excellence-based selection process for Knowledge and Innovation Communities (hereinafter referred to as “KICs”) in these fields; membership of the Governing Board of the EIT should balance experience from the business and the research/academic worlds.
