Is deeply worried that female representation at the next European Parliament elections risks falling dramatically because of very low female political representation in the accession countries; therefore, calls on the Commission and the accession countries to support financially women's NGO's in the accession countries so that they can establish information programmes specifically designated to prepare and train female candidates for the European Parliament elections in June 2004, taking account of the conclusions of the Ministerial Conference held in Syracuse on the participation of women in decision and policy-making processes, which provide for a minimum 30% representation of women on their lists of candidates standing in the European elections. Calls on the political parties in all Member States to introduce positive action systems to promote a balanced representation of women and men and to review their party structures to avoid any form of gender discrimination, direct or indirect. Calls on the Commission and the Member States to support financially womens's NGO's arranging awareness raising campaigns to promote a better political participation of women at the next European elections.
9. s'inquiète vivement du fait que la représentation des femmes lors des prochaines élections du Parlement européen risque de baisser sensiblement en raison de la très faible présence des femmes sur la scène politique dans les pays adhérents; invite par conséquent la Commission et les pays adhérents à soutenir financièrement des ONG de femmes dans les pays adhérents, afin qu'elles puissent mettre en place des programmes d'information spécialement destinés à préparer et à former les candidates aux élections du Parlement européen de juin 2004, compte tenu des résultats de la conférence ministérielle "Les femmes dans les processus décisionnaires et politiques", tenue à Syracuse, qui prévoyait une présence des femmes, sur les listes électorales à établir en vue des élections européennes, d'au moins 30%; invite les partis politiques de tous les États membres à adopter des mesures d'actions positives destinées à encourager une représentation équilibrée des femmes et des hommes et à réexaminer leurs structures afin d'éviter toute forme de discrimination, directe ou indirecte; invite la Commission et les États membres à aider financièrement des ONG de femmes menant des campagnes de sensibilisation en faveur d'une plus large participation des femmes aux prochaines élections européennes.

Indeed, Commissioner, sport can be a very pro-active way of combating discrimination against women and, more importantly, of combating the under-representation of women, and I think that measures should be taken in this direction in order to increase the number of women in leading positions at all levels of sports activities, to support the personal and professional development of women in the field of sport, the organisation and administration of sport and training and the organisation of sporting events at all levels.
En effet, Madame la Commissaire, le sport peut être une manière extrêmement proactive de lutter contre la discrimination à l’encontre des femmes et, plus important, de combattre la sous-représentation des femmes. Je pense que des mesures devraient être prises dans cette direction afin d’accroître le nombre de femmes à des postes de décision à tous les niveaux des activités sportives, afin de soutenir le développement personnel et professionnel des femmes dans le domaine sportif, l’organisation et l’administration du sport ainsi que l’entraînement et l’organisation de manifestations sportives à tous les niveaux.
