The organization has constructed a means to do that through the Internet and through religious preaching, including messaging from a Khomeini cleric by the name of Anwar al- Awlaki, who encourages people to join the movement as a way of participating in a pan-Islamic goal of defeating Western engagement and interests in Somalia.
