Expresses its deepest concern over further aggravation of the violent crisis in Syria, and condemns in the strongest terms the use of chemical weapons against civilians, which is a crime according to international law; calls again for an adequate response from the UN Security Council and for the EU and the international community to show a strong united front and to react strongly to this breach of international law, in order to fulfil their responsibility to protect civilians in Syria; calls on the Union to support mediation attempts such as the Geneva Conference II in order to find a solution that would respect the democratic aspirations of the Syrian people; believes that any deterrent action must have clear and attainable objectives and must be anchored in a wider political strategy aimed at containing the Syrian conflict;
114. exprime ses plus vives préoccupations quant à l'aggravation de la violente crise en Syrie et condamne avec la plus grande fermeté le recours aux armes chimiques contre les civils, qui constitue un crime au regard du droit international; demande à nouveau au Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies de réagir de manière appropriée et à l'Union européenne et à la communauté internationale de faire front uni et de réagir fermement à cette grave violation du droit international pour assumer sa responsabilité de protéger les civils syriens; appelle l'Union à appuyer les tentatives de médiation telles que la conférence de Genève II pour trouver une solution qui respecterait les aspirations démocratiques du peuple syrien; estime qu'une action dissuasive de ce type doit poursuivre des objectifs clairs et réalisables et s'inscrire dans une stratégie politique plus large visant à contenir le conflit syrien;

14. Urges the Council and Commission to keep the issue of Chechnya as a separate item high on the agenda of EU-Russia relations and to reiterate once again to the Russian authorities the call for the resumption of negotiations with all the parties, in order to achieve an immediate political solution to the conflict, which cannot be considered solely as part of the fight against terrorism, making clear the EU's willingness to act as a mediator;
14. invite instamment le Conseil et la Commission à conserver à la question tchétchène une place distincte et élevée à l'ordre du jour et à répéter leurs appels aux autorités russes en faveur de la reprise des négociations entre toutes les parties afin de trouver une solution politique immédiate à un conflit qui ne peut être considéré comme relevant de la lutte contre le terrorisme et en rappelant clairement la disponibilité de l'UE pour tenir un rôle de médiateur;
