Stresses that the 61st Meeting of the Transatlantic Legislators' Dialogue, held in Vienna on 18-21 April 2006, reaffirmed the enormous advantages for our constituents that could result from the removal of barriers impeding transatlantic economic relations and noted that the relationship between the United States and the European Union should be renewed by replacing its current structure with an EU/US Partnership Agreement;

Concerning other MEDA regional actions in this area, Ministers noted the progress made: the launching of the Euromed Youth Platform for dialogue among representatives of youth organisations and the development of subsequent sub-regional meetings, such as the one that took place in Amman in March; the preparation of phase II of Euromed Audio-visual and the corresponding annual conference in Marseilles in April 2004 with a special emphasis on the legislative framework for a better circulation of audio-visual products in the region; the successful implementation of Euromed Heritage phase III and the organisation of a Conference to be held in June 2004 in Rome in order to cement its positive results.

NOTES that by means of the Commission's Green Paper on European social policy a detailed discussion has been set in motion in the European Parliament and the Council, between both sides of industry and among the public on the choice of new areas of social policy and a timetable for the future orientation of European social policy; 2. RECALLS the Commission's presentation of its White Paper on European social policy, which summarizes the discussion taking place throughout the European Union and in which the Commission develops its ideas on the future of European social policy in ten detailed chapters on social policy; 3. IS CONVINCED that the Commission's White Paper on European social policy represents an important contribution to the further development of social policy in the Union; 4. WELCOMES the fact that during 1995 the Commission will submit a detailed new work programme in which it will put forward its proposals for the future organization of social policy until the end of the decade; 5. EXPECTS that in so doing the Commission will also continue the constructive dialogue with the Council and in developing the work programme will take account of the discussion held in the Council on the White Paper on European social policy and the opinions expressed by the Member States; 6. POINTS OUT that, in its conclusions of 21 December 1992 on the effective implementation and enforcement of Community legislation on social affairs [1] and its contribution of 22 September 1994 to combating unemployment, the Council has already adopted a position on areas of social policy which are also covered in the White Paper on European social policy; 7. CONSTATE que le Livre vert de la Commission sur la politique sociale européenne a suscité au Parlement européen, au Conseil, chez les partenaires sociaux et dans l'opinion publique une discussion approfondie sur la désignation de nouveaux champs d'action de la politique sociale et sur un calendrier pour l'orientation future de la politique sociale européenne ; 2. RAPPELLE la présentation par la Commission du Livre blanc sur la politique sociale européenne, qui résume le débat qui a eu lieu dans toute l'Union européenne et dans lequel la Commission, en dix chapitres détaillés en matière de politique sociale, expose ses conceptions quant à l'avenir de la politique sociale européenne ; 3. EST CONVAINCU que le Livre blanc de la Commission sur la politique sociale européenne représente une importante contribution à la poursuite du développement de la politique sociale de l'Union ; 4.
