These are the main objectives that can be set for the Prevention of and Fight against Crime programme, with the leading role being taken by action to combat the terrorist threat. The human and material damage causes by the recent terrorist attacks on European targets both inside Europe (with the attacks on the public transport systems in Madrid and London in the forefront) and outside (for example, in Casablanca) probably make counter-terrorism the prime argument in favour of closer cooperation for the benefit of European citizens.
Tels sont les objectifs majeurs que l’on peut assigner au programme « Prévenir et combattre la criminalité » en accordant une place prépondérante à la lutte contre la menace terroriste : en effet, le bilan humain et matériel des attentats ayant récemment touché des cibles européennes sur le continent – on pense bien sûr aux attaques dans les transports en commun de Madrid et de Londres – mais également à l’extérieur (comme à Casablanca) font probablement du contre-terrorisme l’emblème de cet impératif de coopération au service des citoyens européens.
