This amendment aims at providing transparency on the performance of investment products covered by this regulation. Therefore, the performance of a certain product and the portfolio if applicable should be compared to a different product with comparable risks.

Takes note of the recent legal developments regarding the EU's ban on seal products, in particular Canada's request to the WTO for the establishment of a formal dispute resolution panel; expects the Commission to remain firm on the EU's stance regarding the ban on seal products, and expresses its strong hope that Canada will withdraw the WTO challenge, which runs counter to positive trade relations, prior to the need for ratification of the CETA agreement by the European Parliament;

As Canada is a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Commission must undertake to find a satisfactory solution regarding both industrial products and agricultural or fisheries products, so that Canada does not become a gateway through which goods from other NAFTA members enter Europe.

In our June 2005 report, Falling Behind: Answering The Wake-Up Call – What Can Be Done To Improve Canada’s Productivity Performance, we indicated that Canada’s productivity performance must improve if we are going to be able to meet the challenges posed by future fiscal and social pressures.
