Indeed, in the final analysis, what matters is that we strike the right balance between two things that are very dear to us and that can appear conflicting at times, namely the pursuit of the highest level of effective security and a sense of security on the one hand and protecting fundamental human rights, citizens’ rights, including the right to privacy, and the free movement, to which we have grown so accustomed, on the other.
En effet, le résultat qui importe en définitive est que nous puissions concilier comme il se doit les deux préoccupations qui nous tiennent particulièrement à cœur et qui peuvent parfois paraître conflictuelles, à savoir, d’une part, la recherche d’un niveau maximal de sécurité effective et d’un sentiment de sécurité, et d’autre part, la protection des droits humains fondamentaux, des droits des citoyens, notamment le droit au respect de la vie privée, ainsi que de la libre circulation - autant de privilèges qui nous sont devenus familiers.
