IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

This report is being presented under Article 8 of Decision 508/2000/EC of 14 February 2000 establishing the Culture 2000 Programme (hereinafter the "Decision") [2], which establishes that no later than 31 December 2002 the Commission shall present to the European Parliament, the Council, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions a detailed assessment report on the results of the Culture 2000 Programme, having regard to its objectives, and accompanied if necessary by a proposal for the amendment of the Decision.

The Commission is submitting the "Trans-European Networks (TEN) 2000 Annual Report" to the European Parliament, the Council, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of Regions pursuant to Article 16 of Regulation n°2236/95 as amended by Regulation n° 1655/99 of the European Parliament and the Council, laying down general rules for the granting of Community financial aid in the field of Trans-European Networks.
La Commission présente le "rapport annuel 2000 sur les réseaux transeuropéens (RTE)" au Parlement européen, au Conseil, au Comité économique et social et au Comité des régions conformément à l'article 16 du règlement (CE) n° 2236/95, tel que modifié par le règlement (CE) n° 1655/99 du Parlement européen et du Conseil déterminant les règles générales pour l'octroi d'un concours financier communautaire dans le domaine des réseaux transeuropéens.

With this Communication, the Commission is submitting to the Council, the European Parliament, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions (for information) the Fifth Report on the application of Directive 89/552/EEC,[1] as amended by Directive 97/36/EC,[2] “Television without Frontiers” (referred to below as “the Directive”).

The initial report was perhaps understandably vague and general. However, the amendments at committee stage ensured we are now clear on what is important.

I tabled an amendment in committee proposing that Article 47 should be deleted in its entirety. My amendment was not adopted by the committee and I, therefore, voted against the report.

I voted against certain amendments in committee. This was because the report repeatedly referred to the adoption of additional criteria for the definition of regions as an objective. I regard that as a problem, as taking account of, say, economic, geographical and social criteria in the case of non-administrative units will lead to a blurring of these clear criteria.
J’ai voté, en commission, contre certains amendements, car dans le rapport, il est indiqué que le but visé est la prise en compte de critères supplémentaires pour la délimitation des unités territoriales. Je considère cela comme problématique. La prise en considération de critères par exemple économiques, géographiques et sociaux pour des unités non administratives va conduire à estomper ces critères opérants.
