In order to further pursue the development of the single European railway area, in particular in relation to providing appropriate information to freight customers and passengers, and to avoid fragmented development of telematics applications, it is necessary to give the Agency a strengthened role in the field of such applications.

To cite just a few examples of the kinds of strategic investments we are making in food safety from the farm gate to the plate, we have allocated $6.6 million for the Canadian Pork Council to develop the national swine traceability system, over $950,000 to help the Canadian Pork Council strengthen the national on-farm food safety system for its industry, and over $4.5 million to help the Canadian Cattlemen Identification Agency to strengthen overall livestock traceability.

Recognises the policy priorities set out as those central to the Community’s Environment Policy Agenda, identified and set out in the 6 Environmental Action Programme. Envisages, on the basis of a proposal by the Commission, a review of the Council Regulation on the establishment of the EEA towards the end of the current Multiannual Work Programme of the Agency (EEA Strategy 2004-2008)".
