At its meeting of 17 September 2013 the Committee accordingly decided, by 13 votes in favour and 11 against, to recommend to you that the appropriate legal basis for the proposal for a Council Directive laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation is Articles 31 and 32 of the Euratom Treaty.

The Committee's task is expected to cover all public and private sectors of the economy, with the exception of the protection of workers against the dangers arising from ionising radiation, which is regulated by the Scientific and Technical Committee set up under the EURATOM Treaty.
